What is confidence?

Do you have dreams that feel out of touch because you’re not sure you’ve got what it takes?

We all know what it feels like to lack confidence, and we have all experienced a sense of imposter syndrome at some point in our lives. The question is how much is this holding you back? If it is too much, then that needs to change.

But firstly, think about what confidence means to you?

We all have our own unique way of thinking about this quality.  For me, confidence means that I feel I can handle what gets thrown at me.  It doesn’t mean that I am good at everything, and believe that I can do everything.  It just means that I feel I will find a way to deal with challenging situations, and am prepared to put myself out there. Equally, I am not prepared to do what doesn’t feel right.

But that might be at odds with someone else’s interpretation of confidence. The stereotype is often that the confident person is the loudest in the room who is calling out for attention, but I am not sure if that is an indicator of true confidence.

Someone who is confident is someone who is comfortable in their own skin and about who they are.

Confidence can also be context specific, because someone might feel very confident in one situation and not in another. Our lives are made up of many different facets including careers, relationships (romantic, friends and family etc.), spiritual, health and many more.

So if you were to consider an area of your life where you would like to feel more confident, what would that be?

Do you know what it would be like to be confident in this area?

How would you know that you had the confidence that you are looking for and what would it feel like?

You have now started to create a vision of how you would like things to be different from how they are now. Of what it would be like to be more confident in the way that you would like.
